Swimming with Sharks Exuma
Monday, May 2, 2016Happy Monday! I'm back and ready to share more on my Exuma trip (are you getting bored yet?). Well hold on to your tail fin because we're about to go swimming with the sharks!!

Leading up to it, I was SO excited. I thought this was going to be awesome, it's going to be so great... etc etc and then I walked up to the marina to see these REAL LIFE WILD SHARKS in the water just hanging out. I got a little freaked out -- major adrenaline rush. They were much bigger than I was imagining hahah.
We paid $20 to dock and swim with the sharks and then I hopped on in. The only rules: don't put your hands near their face (duh). At first I was tip-toeing around as not to disturb anyone and was minding my own business when I a fish swam up behind me and brushed against my back. Well, at least I thought it was a fish!! Hahah I turned around and about peed my pants. HELLO MR SHARK NICE TO MEET YOU.
But thats when it hit me they were kind of really friendly -- in the we can still eat you kind of way. So I started to build up a little more courage and start petting them. I walked into their hangout circle, I got a few pictures and we were becoming close friends.
I made sure though to never just let my hands dangle by my side -- I mean I can't have them thinking "oh that looks like fish!" by accident. Looking back, I'm sure I was totally fine but that was my way of coping with my fear.
I would let one swim by and then pet their back. To my surprise they weren't smooth like a dolphin or a stingray-- they were kind of like wet sandpaper. Go figure.
As time passed, I become more comfortable and was seeking them out to pet. Our guide was feeding them (by throwing little pieces of food in the water) near by me so they would hang out closer to me. At first I was like please don't, but after I loved it!
Andrew didn't hop in the water with me (though I wish he did) but I still had a great time. Probably the highlight of the trip. If you're ever in Exuma, the nurse sharks are about an hour boat ride away but they are seriously worth it!!
A little last note on my bikini, I know a lot of you have reached out about it being sold out or too expensive (I'm sorry!!) so I rounded up scallop bikinis that are IN STOCK and UNDER $100 below via the widget (if you can't see it, go to the desktop site). These are seriously amazing alternatives that you are going to love for summer!
