I've now had my Apple Watch for a full month so I decided to write a little review for those of you interested in getting or gifting the watch. I thought it was easiest to put this review in the form of a Q&A so it can be broken up better. Hope you enjoy!

(P.S. Thanks for submitting your questions via Snap and Instagram! It really helped me write about what YOU guys want to hear!)

------

Why did you get it?
There are two main reasons for wanting the watch. One, I didn't know what to put on my Christmas list. It's a blessing and a curse being older and financially independent. Blessing because most things you want, you can buy yourself. Curse because when it comes time for gifts there is nothing you dramatically need. BUT I was always teetering between wanting this watch and never pulling the trigger. As the Apple 2 came out I decided I finally wanted it but waited to purchase it. So Christmas was a perfect time to ask.

Two, I loved the water feature. I have always been a swimmer and with my new building having a pool, I wanted to get back into the swing of that routine. But it's hard to just open-water swim without a routine or a timer. So when the Apple 2 came out with the feature of being able to help, track and take on water, I knew it would be the perfect thing.

What do you use it for?
I honestly use it to track my day-to-day life. I track my fitness and move goals, my heart rate, my steps, my emails and texts, the time (go figure!), the date, the weather -- just about everything!

I also use it when I'm in meetings or at dinners with friends as to not be on my phone so much. This way I can see when texts or emails come in without looking at my phone and see if anything needs an urgent response. With a glance at my watch, I can see who is texting or calling or if I'm needed at work. It's awesome.

What is your favorite feature?
The activity tracker. It helps me not be so lazy. You can really lose track of the day when you sit at a desk for eight hours five days a week. This tracker reminds me to get up and move around (literally) and I can get so competitive sometimes that all I want to do is hit the goal each day.

Just having this tracker makes your activity and fitness level more top of mind. It even reminds you hourly to get up and move around, which I love. Time can really fly when you're not paying attention. I see it as basically reminding myself to take a break.

What is your least favorite feature?
I hate that I have to have my phone nearby at all times. I would love nothing more than to go to a meeting at work or visit a friend's desk and leave my phone behind and just stay updated via the watch. But if you get too far away from you phone, the smart watch and all of its fun capabilities stop working.

What apps do you use the most?
I'm pretty bad about this (or maybe because I've only had the watch for a short time) but I don't really have any fun or exciting apps on my watch. I would use Apple Pay more often if I knew how to figure it out on my watch (I just use my phone). But I'm open to any suggestions you may have! Here are the ones I use currently:

JetBlue/Wallet - It will have your boarding passes on your watch so you don't have to worry about printing them or having to keep your phone out.

Phone - I'm probably the worst at hearing my phone ring but when I have my watch on, it's hard to miss! I have also taken a few calls from the watch before and it's worked pretty well on my end (haven't heard complaints about it on the other side either)!

Texts - I really love being able to send and receive texts. I am constantly dictating to my watch what to type back or scribble it on the watch itself.

Siri - It's really nice to have Siri on the watch so I can be riding my bike and say, "Hey Siri, text Andrew I'm on my way" or "Hey Siri, set timer for 10 minutes" during a workout.

Timer - I use this for working out, cooking, naps, and my laundry. It's so helpful to have a timer and one that is so easy to use!

Workout - I love being able to tell my watch that I'm about to work out and that I get to specify what I'm doing exactly. So it knows when I'm riding my bike to work or when I'm swimming in a pool. I think it better helps track my progress and what I'm doing.

Fitness Tracker - Like I mentioned earlier, it's really nice to have a constant reminder to stand or to move around or something to just look at and realize you've been extra lazy today. It also helps that the watch doesn't judge you for those lazy days.

What bands do you have?
I currently have three different bands - one leather brown, one leather double strap blue and one sports grey. I constantly have them on rotation and love them all so much! Links to exact products (and more affordable options) below:

Grey Sport Band / More Affordable Option - I use this in the water or when I'm working out. It is very comfortable and easy to put on and take off.
Brown Leather Band / More Affordable Option - I use this as my go-to since the brown matches everything and makes it look very professional.
Blue Leather Double Strap / Alternative Option (brown option) - I wear this when I'm wearing any kind of blue or navy (which is a lot!) it's a great alternative to the Hermes band!

Is it worth the money?
I think this is totally case-by-case. I even told my mom last week that if you use it and it becomes part of your everyday life like your phone, I believe it is worth it. Would it be worth it to just track your workouts? No. But just like you don't use your phone only to make calls, you wouldn't just use the watch for one purpose. It gets smarter and learns more about your habits the more you wear it. Therefore, it becomes more useful.

I told my mom to buy one from Best Buy and test it out for 30 days. They have a really good return policy and if you end up not loving it or using it, then return it!

What about the watch would make it worth the investment vs. a regular watch?
The things it does. I have a LOT of watches but all they really do is tell the time, and if I'm lucky, tell me the date. This tells me everything. It helps me answer simple questions like what the weather is like or what time is it in LA. It'll even tell you when the sun is setting and rising each day. I think all of these things (and all of the above) make it worth the investment versus a regular watch. That is if you wear it!

Rose gold vs Gold for everyday?
I'm personally not a fan of rose gold and therefore don't own a lot of jewelry in that color so I might be a *bit* biased when I say that I would hands down choose gold. Gold just goes with more things! Gold even goes with rose gold, but rose gold doesn't go with much. Gold will also never go out of style.

Is the leather band worth it?
I think so, yes! I have a more expensive Apple leather band and a less expensive Amazon leather band and there is a difference. A $100 difference? No. But the one from Apple is more comfortable throughout the day. Not as comfortable as the sport band but still worth the money if you're able to splurge for it!

Does it cause your phone to die faster?

This is a good question! At first I thought it did because your phone has to stay on Bluetooth mode the whole day, but then I started to think about it more. Now I want to say no because I'm not on it as much. Since I look at emails or texts a lot on my watch versus my phone, I think it would save battery life! That and I'm not constantly checking my phone to see if I missed anything.

One thing I would note on this topic, is you need to charge the watch every night. A relatively easy thing to do, but I found a lot of my friends forget to do this. The watch is working hard all day long (everyday) and therefore can only last about a day and a half. But you don't want to waste the half day, so I charge it every night.

There are great new chargers out there that have a phone and watch port in one that may be worth checking out:

Belkin Charge Dock (that comes with it's own chargers) or a stand with the same idea that requires your own chargers but is much cheaper!

Whew! So that is it. If you have any other questions, let me know below and I can help answer them!

Happy Monday! With the work week starting, I thought I would share a fun and casual wear-to-work look. But I needed black jeans to complete the look and I only had ones with holes in them. Let me explain!

SHOP MY LOOK HERE:

Cece: Collar Tie Striped Shirt / J. Crew: Regent Blazer (on sale!) / AG: Black Ripped Jeans (non ripped here; more affordable here) / Chanel: Black Ballet Flats (similar here) / Ray-Ban: Round Clubmasters / Louis Vuitton: Toiletry Pouch / David Yurman: Pearl Earrings

If your office is casual or semi-casual, black jeans are the perfect thing to wear. They never really look like jeans but more like "pants" and are usually pretty excepted wherever. My office is the most casual place so whatever kind of jeans you want to wear, you can wear. But this is for those of you who might not work in baseball.

However, I only have black denim with holes in them and this look needed black denim. So if you can look past that for a tiny second, you can see that this look would actually be great for a casual or semi-casual work environment.

If you're not looking for a work look, this outfit is complete.

I'm pretty sure whenever you add a blazer to things, it makes the outfit look 100% more polished and put together.

Over the weekend, I asked a lot of you what you'd like to see more of on Covering the Bases and a good handful of you said either closet staples or work wear staples and I just have to say this blazer fits into both of those categories. This jacket is one of the best purchases I've made because it can go with anything. It can be worn to work, out with friends, or even on vacation!

Luckily for you, it's on sale today with 40% off on top of it!!! I'm wearing a size 6 (my normal size) for reference.

This picture was from the only sunny day this week! It rained every single day which sucked. But finally one morning the blue skies came out -- I love trying to capture the sun behind the city in the morning. Super blessed for this view!

Shopping: Oh man did I shop this week. Not a good one but I did do a recent closet purge and had my girlfriends come over last night and take the rest so it felt good to get a lot of things out the door.

Bow Off the Shoulder Top: I shared this on twitter when I first saw it but it's soooooo cute!!! I hope the arms don't look weird on me but this top just screams spring and I'm all in. Did I mention it was under $50?

Loafer Fur Slides (also HERE): I blogged about these earlier in the week and I'm so sad they are almost out of stock because they are seriously good dupes to the Gucci loafers!

Red Quilted Jacket: This jacket reminds me so so much of the Burberry one (look at the sleeves) I had to snatch it up to see if it can hold up in real life. I will give you all an update!

Charlotte Tilbury Powder: This was a little bit of an impulse buy for me. I was just hanging around on YouTube and stumbled across her makeup page watched exactly two videos where she used this and bought the product right then and there. It just looks like it works wonders! I don't even usually wear a powder. I don't know what I was thinking haha.

Maxwell Tie Sleeve Blouse: You can never have too many white shirts in your closet first and foremost. This looked perfect for spring so I had to snatch it up. Praying it's not see through but the ties make it extra special!

Fluted Tie Sleeve Top: To go along with the tie sleeve trend here, I snagged this top for topshop. Looking back on it now I'm a little less excited to get it in but I really hope it surpasses my expectations!

Tie Sleeve Shift: OK OK I know. Last tie thing of the day. I just love shift dresses and this pale pink one made my list of must haves for the week. Sue me!

Baseball Tee: Look at this top and tell me it doesn't look like the most comfortable thing ever. I don't know what I'll wear it with but I know I need it. Baseball!!

Marc Fisher Wedges: These Chloe dupes are back in our lives and they are here to stay! I have a pair of the open toe wedges from last season but I wanted to try and snag a pair of the close toed ones as well. We'll see how it goes because for the life of me I cannot figure out how to style espedrilles sandals.

Reading: I have not been reading like I want to lately (life gets in the way) but I'm still reading up on Sweetbitter. The book is getting better and more interesting the more I read it. It's not a page turner that I can't put down but it's good. I'm looking forward to reading more.

NYC Life: Andrew and I went to the Rangers game on Wednesday and I have to admit the game was pretty bad. But the seats and the popcorn were great so there wasn't too much to complain about. I also had my girlfriends from work over last night for a wine and cheese night and it was so much fun. I can't tell you how great it is to have such good friends at work. They can make anything better!

Weekend Plans: I need to film! Omg do I need to film... I seriously loved doing daily vlogs and I was actually sad when they stopped because I didn't know what to do with myself. You do blogs for 30+ days and you stop cold turkey it's a strange feeling. But then I just didn't film ANY and I was sad. So they will be back starting next week!

Also last weekend Andrew and I went to see the movie Lion and I thought it was amazing. Definitely recommend it to everyone! I can see why it's nominated for so many movies. Praying we can see another one this weekend!

Most Popular Item This Week: The Zella Leggings - DUH these leggings are the bomb dot com and I want to wear them everyday of my life. Patiently waiting for work to allow the athleisure look for the day time.

Throwback Post: One Year Anniversary in New York City - it is always so much fun looking back on theses posts, I'm truly happy that I made this a yearly thing! Crazy I'm heading on 4 years this year -- where has the time gone?

Favorite Finds:
-Kaleidoscope Dress: may be a little more than you're looking to spend on a dress but I love Ted Baker items and think they are usually worth the price. The beautiful satin bows on the shoulders look amazing and I feel like the back of the dress comes as a shocker since it's so low. I feel like this would be good for winter formal events!

-Mock Sweater Vest: The name of it sounds weird but I think this top is actually the cutest. I can see it being worn with a leather vest and some jeans/booties -- perfect for that in between time of winter and spring!

-Zella Hoodie: Now I'm obsessed with all things Zella since these leggings came in, so I found this sweatshirt and think it might actually be one of those really cute "I'm wearing sweats but still look fancy" types of shirts. Anyone else agree?

-Sunflower Sunglasses: I think these are the cutest! Especially for summer but I'm trying to figure out if I can pull them off.

-J. Crew Pullover Sweater: This looks super comfortable and something that would be so fun to layer but I can't figure out if it would be too boxy or not on my body. Thoughts?

Favorite Blogger Post: "Blogging Tips and Tricks" by Grace at The Stripe. GUYS this post is LEGIT and I even learned a thing or two. Just simply an amazing amazing post by Grace. You rock!!

Song of the Week: Broad Shoulders By Taylor Bennett ft Chance the Rapper. This week was amazing for songs (let me know if you guys want a playlist!) and this was a big front runner. My love for Chance is unmatched so this pick may be biased but it is a really good song.

A Must Read (listen to): The Barstool guys did an podcast with Evan and Kenny from MTVs the Challenge (one of my favorite shows) and it was soooooo good. First off, I'm a big old school lover of these two guys but the stuff they were shedding light on and getting into was SO interesting and definitely worth a listen to!

A Must Watch: Bad Lip Reading of the Inauguration -- this had me in TEARS it was so funny. It might be true at parts even. But omg hahaha this is so worth 5 minutes of your day. Sometimes these videos are so so but this one was one of the best.

Ask Me Anything: Will you post reviews of the items you've bought under your "shopping" links? Yes! The way I shop is methodical but my packages always arrive by EOD Friday (or sometimes longer recently because two day shipping is not available). So I don't have reviews when I'm writing this but I can do a snapchat or instagram review or unboxing over the weekends! Where would you guys prefer to see it?

To be honest, I'm not much of a pink person. I love red and wear it all the time, but pink? Not so much. But for Valentines Day a girl can do anything. Even rock a pink ruffle shift dress in 40 degree weather.

SHOP MY LOOK HERE:

Chelsea28: Ruffle Shift Dress (also comes in red) / Burberry: Sandringham Trench / Loeffler Randall: Emi Heels (also in nude) c/o / Kenneth Jay Lane: Penelope Earrings (comes in 4 other colors!) c/o / Celine: Nano Luggage

This dress actually does come in red and I was so tempted to buy it but I thought pink would be something new and fun for me so I decided to test it out. I actually ended up LOVING this pale pink color -- its just so feminine and girly and it compliments my skin so well.

Now the ruffle, that is a different story. It's SO much cuter in person and it just goes to show that the most simple addition to an item can completely transform the look. I mean the fact that it goes up and around on the back is really a nice touch. No part of this dress is boring!

I decided to pair it with red and hot pink items because... hello it's Valentines Day! The accessories help make the look all come together.

Andrew and I aren't doing anything big for Valentines day (at least not that I know of) because we're heading to Dublin for his 30th a few days later (yay!) We're doing smaller gifts this year because we usually end up spending way too much on each other. I'm asking for this ring or a Barnes and Nobel gift card! Talk about a variety of choices...

Anyone else lusting over these loafers? I feel like I'm not quite cool enough to wear them and therefore pull the trigger. BUT I have found some some really great dupes that are coming out if you don't want to pay the full price tag. See more below!

SHOP THE POST HERE:

Left ($125) / Center ($89) / Right ($995)

These shoes are actually what prompted this blog post. I was like oh wow these look SO much like the Gucci pair and they're actually under $100. I thought what better way to dip my toe in the trendy water than with these shoes. If I don't love them, they are easy to return but seriously how cute are they!!

Left ($250) / Right ($595)

I swear two months ago there wasn't a single backless loafer that weren't Gucci or a ton of money but now they are seriously everywhere which I am loving. I love a good (and affordable) dupe -- especially on more trendy items. Why spend so much money on something that might not be in style next year.

That's my thought now... I mean maybe I'll get these shoes in next week and be like welp, ok... I love them and I need the real things. I will keep you guy updated!

If there are other dupes out there, link me below so we can all shop them!

I remember when I was shopping around for a Canada Goose last year I was scouring the internets for reviews and explanations of the difference between their line of jackets. So today I wanted to bring a comprehensive review of the two most popular jackets that Canada Goose carries and tell you what I like, what I don't and which one I want to keep!

SHOP MY LOOK HERE:

(left jacket is the Trillium and right is the Shelburne)

I've had my Shelburne parka for a little over a year now and I love it (you can see my video review HERE). I'm so happy with my purchase and I seriously look forward to wearing it everyday during the winter. I love the color, the style and everything in-between. I loved it so much that I thought I wanted to get another one -- a red one more specifically so I recently snagged the Trillium parka. Let me share my thoughts!

(I'm wearing a MEDIUM in both jackets and I'm 5'6!)

Pros for the Trillium:
  • The Warmth - this jacket can keep you warm in -15 degree heat and it's the warmest jacket Canada Goose makes. It's actually made for you to wear in the arctic and survive. So props to how warm it is! Now do I need something this warm in New York city? Probably not. But do I want it? Duh.
  • The Hood - Not only is it super warm and perfect to keep the wind and rain out of your face, but it's also huge. Sometimes too big (like can't see anything because it's in your face big) but it's adjustable so you can fix just about anything. The very best part though (and why it made it on the pro list) is the hood is completely detachable. You can zipper the hood and the fur off -- all separately. So when you don't want it around, it doesn't have to be!
  • The Pockets - There are two sets of pockets on this jacket, as well as one on the inside. The top pockets around the chest are fleece lined and super warm while the pockets by your hips are huge and can hold just about anything. Sometimes it's nice to have all that pocket space!
Cons for the Trillium:
  • The Shape - This was one of the biggest drawbacks for me... it was just so extremely boxy. The jacket does have drawstrings on the inside to clinch the waist but it doesn't totally help. I worry that I got the wrong size but when it's buttoned, I don't think I could go smaller. It honestly felt like a unisex jacket and I think the pictures show just how much bigger it is than the Shelburne.
  • The Sleeves (can sometimes be a pro) - One of my favorite things about the Canada Goose jackets are the fact they have this tight black part of the sleeve around your wrist so the wind doesn't come up your arms. On the other jacket they come a little longer than my wrists but on this Trillium jacket they come to my knuckles! It just seems to me that they're a bit too long. But others can find this a good thing, so to each their own.
  • The Bulkiness - This might just be repetitive of the two above, since they both contribute to this problem, but the jacket is just too much jacket. You can see it in the photos above, especially when I am turned to the side, how thick this jacket is. I thought it was worth a mention just how wide the sleeves are around the hands. I swear I could fit two arms in the hole -- this just once again adds to the overall shape and bulkiness of the jacket.

Pros for the Shelburne:
  • The Warmth - While it's not as warm as the Trillium, it's still the warmest coat I have ever owned. I can wear this out all day in the winter and be totally fine. Honestly one of the best winter purchases I have made! Since is meant to only keep you warm is -5 weather, I find it's still perfect for New York.
  • The Length - I love the length of this jacket. It hits a little above my knees where the trillium hits about mid thigh. Both are great in terms of length but when I sit with the Shelburne, I find it completely covers the bum and therefore makes everything warmer.
  • The Shape/Structure - Opposite of the Trillium, it has a great shape to it. MUCH more fitted and feminine. Also a huge difference is that the jacket is also quilted so I think that adds another layer to the overall fitted structure. It even has two back flaps that I use when it gets too hot or when I just want a little extra wiggle room.
Cons for the Shelburne:
  • The Hood - One of the only major cons about this jacket is the fact that it doesn't have a removable hood. You can remove the fur but not the hood itself. This is good for someone who loses things easily but not so great for those who want it detach it.
  • The Pockets - I didn't realize until I tried out the Trillium how much I liked having two sets of pockets. The Shelburne only has one set around the hips -- which are fleece lined so that's nice they are always extra warm. We can't have it all can we?

Overall Thoughts:
I love the Canada Goose Jackets and there is seriously not a warmer coat out there. My favorite thing about the jackets (that both have) are the internal backpack straps so you can keep your coat on you while remaining hands free. You'd be surprised how many times I use them! You really can't go wrong with either jacket shown here.

My Pick: The Shelburne
I love it and I continue to love it everyday! I think I'm going to return my Trillium jacket because I don't really love the overall fit and I expect to truly love such an expensive jacket!

There are also a ton of great types of jackets Canada Goose offers. To see a general overview, I think Tuckernuck put together a really great guide to learn the differences in all the coats. You can see that HERE or by clicking the images below. Snapshots of the two jackets are also below:
