I wore today's look last week when I met Katie for rooftop drinks. If there was one item in my closet that I had to wear everyday for the rest of my life, it would be my Ralph Lauren oxford. I wear this all year round and it is really my all-time favorite piece. It's so easy to dress up and to dress down. I love how it's classic and will stand the test of time.
In the summer I like to pair anything white with my jean shorts. That just embodies the perfect summer look. Add some brown and gold accents and accessories and you have yourself an outfit! Andrew's sister, Allison, introduced me to these Steve Madden shoes on Memorial Day and during the whole party I was bugging her asking 20 questions. I wanted them! That night I went home and ordered myself a pair and I loveeeeee them! They're totally different, but perfect for walking around New York (read: comfortable) in the summer.
Soooo remember all the way back to last week when I told you I was going to wear my white shorts all summer long? I really wasn't kidding. If you combine this look and this look you get the below. I know I wear a navy and white stripe with the best of them, but I'm really feeling this red stripe. Maybe because it's smaller stripes? I don't know, but I like it.
I also wanted to talk about my double monogram necklace. I can't tell you how many girls reach out to me and ask for a good place to find a cheaper option for a monogram necklace. LOOK NO FURTHER people! I found one for you: this double monogram necklace is from Accessory Concierge and it's only $38!! I love it and wear it just about everyday. So you're welcome.
Also, I've been lusting over this hermes belt. I mean, how cute is it?! If I didn't want to eat for two weeks, it would totally be mine! Butttt I went with the food and a less pricey option for a very similar belt. It's from C. Wonder and it's on major sale right now. They also have buckles in silver as well as gold. I know the idea was to get your initial, but I'm weird … so whatever.

I've had this dress for about two years now but have worn it maybe twice. Have you ever had clothing so long that it goes in and out of style? Well that was this dress for me. I originally bought it in Kentucky, but my friends didn't seem to appreciate it there (read: not preppy enough). But since my style is all over the place, it fit right in with my closet.
It's just one of those really easy dresses to wear. The loose style works for my body type and the pale yellow goes well with my skin. I thought I would add my favorite green heels to the mix and make it a little party.
When a player is injured a team can place him on the disabled list. A player placed on the DL must remain there for at least 15 days.
So really funny (at least I think so) story about today's pictures. On Sunday, Tracy and I met up in the morning to take some blog photos, as we do every weekend. I was changing into my second look in the bathroom (the dress I'm wearing today) and pulled it over my tush and heard a little pop. Well it just so happens the zipper broke and the dress no longer would zip up. Fun times, right?!
I specifically wore this dress to shoot in front of this Artists Monument on the West Side -- thinking white would be perfect, which it was. So I accepted that I missed my opportunity to shoot in this dress and location.
But if you know me, I'm pretty out there. I do weird things, but I always have a way of making it work. I was set on shooting this outfit and the lighting was perfect. Now was my time to make it happen.
While on the West Side (hidden behind this monument) I threw the broken dress over the dress I was wearing and turned into a magician as I took off my previous dress without showing anything. So now I have this white dress on with a broken zipper and this is where things get (more) interesting.
One of the hangers I brought with me for this shoot had two skirt clips on it and I decided to hand them to Tracy (who's laughing through this whole mess) and told her to clip the dress where she could. It was tight around the chest to begin with (big boob problems) so she clipped them around the waist and I used the closer at the top of my dress to keep the top together. Then voila -- If I didn't turn around, I had myself a dress! (Documented picture below)
Anyway, I love this dress. It's from a store in Lexington called Calypso Boutique. I'm really in love with white dresses and I'm pretty sure I need more in my closet. I know the dress is sold out online, but at the bottom I've listed some other great little white dresses!
I wanted to post today because yesterday was my one year anniversary of living in New York. I know people say it all the time, but I honestly don't know where the time went. The past year has absolutely flown by and as is exciting as it is, it's also extremely terrifying. Life is starting to move at hyper-speed and I'm not ready yet! I loved being new in the city. It gave me excuses to be unaware and made me unafraid of what was to come.
I remember when I first moved here I would wake up everyday, look out my window and think, "There's no way I live here." I remember just thinking that this was my summer vacation and that'd it all be over soon.
When August rolled around and classes started up again the "summer vacation" thought faded away and turned into a "holy shit I live in this city." I was constantly amazed by the beauty of New York. When winter really hit (and stayed forrrevvverrrr) I knew I was in it for real. Why people (including me) put up with such horrible temperatures is beyond me.
I'll admit I started to resent the city and it's dirty streets, rude people and overpriced everything during the winter. There was just no way to be happy. Then we'd get these little days here and there where the sun would come out and really shine. Sure, they were few and far between, but when it came it was all consuming and it made you forget about the days before.
Now, being here a year, I'm used to it all -- the good and the bad. It's normal for me to pay $30 for a meal and normal for me to see the Empire State Building everyday (multiple times a day). I've become a pro at ignoring everyone on the street and dodging the slow-moving tourists (gosh that sentence re-read was rough-- does that make me a New Yorker?).
I finally know where I'm going and how to get to places like UES, LES, Nolita, Tribeca and FiDi (I still LOL at all these parts of the city). I can pick out my favorite spots in most of the city and I can hail a cab better than a seasoned vet.
New York, best put, is like a dramatic relationship. There are so many ups and downs -- so many times where you want to call it quits because it's pushed you over the edge (again and again). But you always come back -- forgive and forget. Remember all of the good times and only a sliver of the bad.
Those nights where you get "New York drunk" waking up to the worst hangover you've had to date (really putting those college years to shame), getting up anyway and being on the go for nine hours. You really push yourself here. New York can bring out the best and worst in everyone and it's really a matter of sink or swim.
Remember back in the day when parents would teach their kids to swim by throwing them in the water and hoping they don't drown? That's how it is moving to New York. You get thrown in, hoping not to drown, and teach yourself to swim. You try and stay afloat for as long as you can -- sometimes you get close to going under but you never fully do. You get tired from constantly moving and being on the go but you power through it. Knowing that this is it -- your one chance to make it.
They really weren't joking when they said if you can make it here you'll make it anywhere.
All in all, I'm so happy living in New York. I mean never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I'd be here, but it's definitely something I will always look back on and smile. For a lot of people, it's always their dream to live here -- I'm just not one of them. Living here has been great and I'm always so thankful for my parents in helping me live this wonderful life.
I've signed my lease for another two years so I'll be going through the crazy roller coaster for a few more years, but I'm happy about it. I don't think I'm quite ready to leave this town just yet. These are the "golden years" of my life and I promise to make every day count. This next year will NOT go by as fast. That's my goal!

To celebrate, I found myself hanging all around New York. Tracy and I started our day on the West Side hanging around the water and visiting the Artists Monument. Then I headed over to meet Rebecca as we ventured over to DUMBO. It was my first time there-- fitting for my one year, right? I couldn't get over how beautiful it was. To celebrate my one year, I bought some balloons and put on my party dress. This outfit was PERFECT for this wall, right?! Wow. I love these photos and I loveeee Rebecca!
